George Pearry Mitchell, beloved father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend, passed away on June 24, 2023, surrounded by family.

George was an Evanston/Skokie resident for many decades.  He worked for Commonwealth Edison for over a quarter-century, ascending to several Director-positions before retirement.  His career of service began after retirement, becoming more active with the Episcopal Church, Evanston NAACP (past President), Illinois NAACP (past President), Skokie Caucus Party (many Committees/Commissions), The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (past President), and Kappa Alpha Psi FraternityEvanston Alumni Chapter (past Polemarch).  His commitment to equality and diversity predominated throughout, and he never hesitated to shatter a glass-ceiling.

George is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, and survived by children Byron (Natasha) and Lisa (Donnell); grandchildren Trinity, Andrew and Jaden; brother Joseph (Cheryl), sister Carmeryl (Bob),brother Gregory; many cousins, nieces and nephews.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
